Buyers go to Etsy looking for genuine vintage, and it is the strictest platform in this hub about what counts. Get the age rule, fees and postage right first, and it can be a strong home for your best older pieces.
Is your stock Etsy stock?
Everything on Etsy has to be made, designed, handpicked or sourced by the seller. For a reseller that means handpicked vintage, and Etsy draws a hard line under it.
What does not qualify:
- Modern second-hand. Reselling modern mass-produced pieces: Not allowed (checked 28 Sep 2026, source 2), whatever the brand.
- Vintage-style. A newer piece sold as "90s style" or "retro" is still modern resale, so it cannot go on Etsy under any label.
- Deadstock under the age line. Unworn old stock still has to pass the age rule, and Etsy expects deadstock sellers to explain how they checked it.
- Mystery bundles. Etsy is clear on curated boxes (Gift baskets and curated boxes need a clear theme: 'clothes' or 'mystery box' does not qualify (checked 28 Sep 2026, source 3)), and every item in one must be listed. Several named, pictured vintage pieces in one listing is a different thing.
- Bought-in rework. Etsy's handmade rule: Etsy counts 'hand altered items' as made by a seller only when the seller did the altering (checked 28 Sep 2026, source 4). A reworked piece is not automatically vintage either.
