Buying wholesale means buying clothing in bulk from a supplier instead of piece by piece. It is usually quicker and cheaper per piece, but you buy on trust and on a description. The skill is knowing what you are paying for, who you are paying, and how to get your money back if it goes wrong.

The main types of lot

Each type differs in cost per piece, sorting work and how much the contents vary.

Lot typeCost per pieceSorting workBest suited to

BaleLowHighExperienced sellers with space and time
Box or bundleMediumMediumSmall first buys

Pre-sorted packHigherLowBeginners and targeted buying
Credential clothingLowVery highVolume sorters with a plan for leftovers

That is cost before sorting: the cheaper the lot, the more of it you should expect not to sell.

What to ask before you buy each type

  • Bale: sealed and bought unopened. Does the weight include packaging, is it quoted in pounds (1 lb = 0.45359237 kg (checked 28 Sep 2026, source 2)), and what happens if the contents do not match?
  • Mystery bundle: what exactly is promised in writing: brands, sizes, categories, condition? If it is not written down, assume it is not included.
  • Pre-sorted pack: which grade, sizes and brands, and can you see photos of a real pack? For a first buy, a small pre-sorted lot in a category you know is the safest way to learn.
  • Credential clothing: unsorted donation bags that can hold household textiles, shoes and damaged items. What is excluded, and do you have space and a plan for what will not sell as clothing?
