Prep is everything between opening a box or bale of stock and taking photos. Done well, pieces look sharp on camera and arrive as described. Done badly, it shrinks knits, cracks prints and turns good stock into flaw notes.
Why prep is worth doing properly
- Photos. Creases and fluff show in every shot, and you should not edit them out afterwards. Vinted's rule: Own photos only, whole item first, no editing (checked 28 Sep 2026, source 1).
- Arrival. Prep is not disguise: a stain you missed or a smell you covered up comes back as a not as described claim.
- Grading. Washing can lift a mark or reveal one, so grade after prep.
